As a seasoned digital marketer, I have many tools that I use to find the best keywords for a business.
BUT what about you? A business owner that doesn’t know about these tools, or how to set them up and use them correctly? Researching this topic online, I have found vague explanations that don’t give you the simple steps you need to take, to boost your website in the search engines result pages.
So, how do I find keywords for my business? I have devised a plan for people that are not in the know. In this article I will give you the simplest and best ways for you to find out what keywords your future customers are typing on google and other search engines.
After you find these keywords, you will have to add them to your website. I will show you how. Let’s begin.
1. Search engine
If you are in America, you will use google or Bing. If you are in China for example, you will use Baidu. Whatever search engine you are using, the steps are the same:
For the purpose of this article, I'll use “Google” as an example.
Let’s use “flower shop” as an example, for a small business.
As a flower shop owner, you want to appear in the first pages of google in as many keywords as possible. This is how to start:
Open google on incognito mode. When you search in incognito mode, you get the best results, because your search history will affect your search. When browsing on incognito mode you will get the results that your future customers are seeing.

Search “flower shop”. Immediately you find other variations for what people are searching for: flower delivery, fresh flowers online, send flowers online, order flower delivery online, and so on.
The next part is a professional secret: Use the phrases you found and run them again in incognito mode. If you see that a phrase is used exactly as you typed it – it’s a keyword. These results will not only show you what keywords to use, they will also show you what services your future customers are seeking, giving you free business advice service (another buck saved).
Next search you need to do in incognito mode is “flower shop Brooklyn” (or where ever you are from). Cross reference these keywords with the first search you did and try and use the same keywords you found in both searches.
Use the phrases that appear in “people also ask”. Add them to your website and use them to search for more keywords.

Use wordstream.com/keywords. This is the easiest and FREE keyword tool I found. It’s really simple to use and it will give you a keyword list. Enter the keywords you found and selected in your initial search.

When selecting keywords, you should select the keywords that have mid to low competition. If you cannot do that, choose the keywords that have the lowest bid range (bid is the amount businesses are paying for their ads to appear in the first pages of the search engine result pages). The smaller the competition the, the best chance you have to appear on the first search engine result pages.

2. Insert keywords into the content on your website
For that, I would like to refer you to my previous article, where I teach how to write SEO content. In that article, you will find a detailed explanation of how to write SEO content and how to add keywords to your content: SEO content writing tips.
This article has a FREE PDF that doesn’t require registration, as all I want is to help small to mid-size businesses thrive. Through my travels, conversations, and work with businesses around the world, I've discovered that there are so many great businesses out there that don't get enough clients simply because they don’t know how to navigate the competitive online world.
Thus, my objective is to help.
3. Run your website through an SEO test.
I've discovered a user-friendly and FREE website, seobility.net, that makes the process easy. While you may not understand every issue the check will discover, don't worry. The essential changes you can make to your website will be straightforward to comprehend. To evaluate your content's performance, navigate to the "Page quality" section. Remember, this test will help you identify areas that require improvement, guiding you towards a better-optimized website for enhanced online success.
